How 2D Measurement Works

2D has two dimensions X and Y and it refers to the dimensions of the computer workspace. When the image is tilted to the side in the program, it becomes a line. Hence, it is referred as “flat”.

In most of the sessions, the thickness of the products are measured using the tomographic method, and thus two-dimensional. One of the primary disadvantages of 2D measurement is the report cannot provide a real-time volumetric imaging. However, 2D imaging helps to identify mitral value from the ventricular perspective.

3D Scanning / Inspection Services

How 3D Measurement Works

3D Scanners collects the 3D measurement data of the physical objects as per size and shape. The engineers use the data to analyse and construct 3D models with high-density point clouds or triangle meshes. Using the software for 3D Scanners, the engineers analyse the scan data by correcting errors, fill holes and improve overall quality. The data will be extracted for 3D CAD Modelling. How Laser Tracker Works

Laser Trackers also known as portable Coordinate Measuring Systems (CMS), measures the 3D coordinate positions of the component using Spherical Mounted Retro-reflector (SMR). Engineers place the SMR on the targeted areas of the component and program the Laser Tracker to read the measurement. The Laser Tracker then analyses the input data into the software.


Laser Tracker has two rotation axes (i) Horizontal Axis and (ii) Vertical Axes. When these two axes intersect at a given point, it acts as the origin for the SMR. The laser beam emerging from the Tracker hits the retro-reflector and reflects back to the Tracker. The reflected beam to the Tracker is sent to Position Sensitive Detector (PSD).

After receiving the beam, the Tracker rotates and fixes the spot on the PSD and tracks the target using SMR. Thus fixing the distance in the software as X, Y and Z value.

Reverse Engineering

ADR Engineering can process Reverse engineering using 3D scan data to generate CAD model for any physical object or of free-form shape. Most of the complex surfaces processed through callipers for reverse engineering mostly result in an unreformed outcome. Through our latest scanning CMM, scan data can be processed into the required model matching with the original model.

How Reverse Engineering Works

Reverse Engineering is a process that reconstructs an object that already exists. To simplify it, the Portable Scanning Arm creates the replica of the scanned object. The process helps to identify the components of the object to examine the relationship of how reverse engineering could work. The engineer analyses the already completed object in the opposite direction of how the object arrived, i.e., design specification.

  • Reverse Engineering process starts with capturing the 3D data by recording the information of the dimension of the object.
  • After capturing the 3D data, the 3D is then converted into model.
  • Later, the converted data is remodelled into Mesh.
  • After evaluating the Mesh data, it is converted into STL, IGS, or STP format.
